# How can I point my website/domain to Shopify?

If you're hosting your domain with Elitehost but want to point your website to Shopify, you'll need to update your DNS settings in cPanel. Additionally, if you want to keep your email services running on Elitehost, you’ll need to modify the mail records to ensure they still point to our server. Before you start, make sure your domain is added in your Shopify account. For detailed instructions, see [Shopify's guide on connecting a domain](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/add-a-domain/connecting-domains/connect-domain-manual).

Here’s how you can configure your DNS settings to point your domain to Shopify while keeping your email services on Elitehost.

### Step 1: Log in to cPanel and Navigate to Zone Editor

1. **Log in to cPanel.**
2. Navigate to the **"Domains"** section and click on **"Zone Editor."**
3. Find your domain in the list and click on **"Manage."**

### Step 2: Update Mail Records to Keep Email Services on Elitehost

1. **Update the Mail A Record** (to keep email pointed to Elitehost):

* Locate the **mail A Record** and ensure it points to the IP address of your Elitehost server (e.g., `164.160.xx.xx`).

* If it’s currently set as a **CNAME Record**, you’ll need to click the drop-down on **CNAME** and change it to an **A Record**.
* If it doesn’t exist, add an **A Record** with the name `mail` and point it to your server’s IP address.
* The IP address can be found by looking at other records that reference `164.160.xx.xx`.

2. **Modify the MX Record**:

* Find the **MX Record** for your domain in the DNS list.
* Edit the **MX Record** to point to `mail.exampledomain.co.za` to ensure email is routed through Elitehost servers.

### Step 3: Point Your Domain's Website to Shopify

1. **Update the A Record** (to point your website to Shopify):

* Locate the **A Record** for the domain that is currently pointing to another IP.
* Click **Edit** next to it.
* Update the **Record** field with `23.227.38.65` and click **Save Record**.

2. **Update the CNAME Record** (to redirect `www` to Shopify):

* Locate the **CNAME Record** for your domain.
* Click **Edit** next to it.
* Update the **Record** field to point to `shops.myshopify.com` and click **Save Record**.

### Example DNS Settings:

| Record Type | Name | Value |
| ---- |
| A Record | @ | 23.227.38.65 |
| A Record | mail | Your Server IP (e.g., 164.160.xx.xx) |
| MX Record | @ | mail.exampledomain.co.za |
| CNAME Record | www | shops.myshopify.com |
### Final Steps
Once you have updated the necessary DNS records, the changes will propagate within 24-48 hours. After propagation, your website will point to Shopify, and your email will continue functioning via Elitehost.
