# How do I run a Traceroute?

If you're experiencing network issues, our support team may ask you to run a traceroute. A traceroute helps identify the path your network traffic takes and where any delays or failures are happening. Below are steps to run a traceroute on both Windows and macOS.

### Steps to run a traceroute on Windows

1. **Open the Command Prompt**:
   * Press the **Windows Key + R** on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
   * Type `cmd` and press **Enter** to open the Command Prompt.

2. **Run the Traceroute**:
   * In the Command Prompt, type the following command **tracert** followed by your domain and press **Enter**, eg:
     ```
     tracert exampledomain.co.za
     ```

3. **Wait for Results**:
   * The traceroute will show a list of hops between your computer and the destination. This process may take a few moments to complete.

4. **Copy the Results**:
   * Right-click inside the Command Prompt window and select **Mark**.
   * Highlight the traceroute results and press **Enter** to copy.
   * Paste the results into a text file or email to share with support.

### Steps to run a traceroute on macOS

1. **Open Terminal**:
   * Click the **Spotlight** icon (the magnifying glass) in the top-right corner of your screen, or press **Command + Space** to open Spotlight Search.
   * Type `Terminal` and press **Enter**.

2. **Run the Traceroute**:
   * In the Terminal window, type the command **traceroute** followed by your domain and press **Enter**, eg:
     ```
     traceroute exampledomain.co.za
     ```

3. **Wait for Results**:
   * The traceroute will begin and show a list of hops between your Mac and the destination. This process may take a few moments to complete.

4. **Copy the Results**:
   * Highlight the results in the Terminal window, right-click, and select **Copy**.
   * Paste the results into a text file or email to share with support.

### What to Do with Traceroute Results

Once you've run the traceroute, copy the results and send them to us. The traceroute helps us identify any network issues between your device and our servers.
