How long does it take for my domain to become active?
When you register or update a domain, it typically takes 24-48 hours for the domain to become fully active. This process, known as DNS propagation, involves updating global name servers to reflect changes in your domain's settings.
However, the time it takes for you to see these changes depends on your Internet Service Provider (ISP). In some cases, updates may be visible within minutes for some users, while taking longer (up to 48 hours or more) for others. This happens because ISPs update their name servers at different intervals.
For .co.za domains, if you’ve updated your DNS and are not seeing the expected changes, it’s important to check whether the domain is in ServerHold status. This can occur when no DNS zone exists for the domain at the time of registration.
You can check if your domain is in ServerHold by logging into the Elitehost Client Area -> Domains -> My Domains -> Manage. If the domain is in ServerHold, it will be indicated there. If a hosting package has been ordered after registering a domain, you can simply update the name servers.
While DNS propagation time cannot be fully controlled, using certain DNS resolvers may speed up the resolution process for you specifically. This will not affect all users, but can allow you to start developing or testing your website more quickly. We recommend using Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 DNS to achieve faster DNS resolution on your end.
