Understanding the .za domain transfer process

Transferring a .za domain (such as .co.za, .org.za, .net.za, or .web.za) to Elitehost is a straightforward process, but it requires action from the registrant to accept the transfer request email. This guide explains the steps involved and addresses common issues you may encounter.

The transfer process

Initiating the transfer:

After you request a transfer, we submit it to the ZA Registry.
The registry sends an email directly to the domain registrant from srszaticket@registry.net.za with the subject: "ZA Registry Consortium (Pty) Ltd: Domain Transfer Request for [domain]"`

Accepting the transfer:

The registrant must click the link in the email to accept the transfer within 5 days. If no action is taken, the transfer will fail, but we automatically reinitiate it up to 5 times.

Transfer completion:

Once accepted, the transfer is typically completed within a few minutes. You will receive a "Domain Transfer Completed" notification.

Name server updates:

An email with the subject "Name Server Update" will be sent. A response is required if you would like us to update the domain to point to our servers. This email can be ignored if you host externally or use third-party name servers.

Ensure you have access to the registrant's email address to prevent delays. If the email is not received, check your spam or junk folder for emails from srszaticket@registry.net.za.

Common Issues

Not receiving the transfer email:

The most common issue occurs when the registrant email address at your current provider is outdated, preventing the transfer email from reaching you. Unfortunately, due to privacy restrictions, we cannot view the registrant's email address. To resolve this please:

Verify the registrant's email address with your current provider.
Update the email address if necessary.
Contact us to reinitiate the transfer once the address has been updated.

Transfer failed after 5 days:

If the transfer is not accepted within the 5-day window, it fails. However, we automatically reinitiate the transfer up to 5 times. You will receive notifications similar to these:

Domain Transfer Initiated - exampledomain.co.za
Domain Transfer Failed & Reinitiated - exampledomain.co.za

To avoid further delays, ensure that the registrant's email address is accessible and up to date.
If the transfer has already failed 5 times, you will need to contact us to reinitiate the transfer.

If you need help or encounter issues during the transfer process, feel free to reach out to our support team or email helpdesk@elitehost.co.za.
