What happens once my domain has expired?

After your domain expires, it may still function for a limited time, but once it enters the grace period, it will stop resolving, meaning your website and email services associated with the domain will become inaccessible.

Expiration Process:

Expired Domain: Immediately after expiration, your domain might still be functional for a brief period. However, it is important to settle the renewal invoice as soon as possible.
Grace Period: After a domain enters the grace period, it will no longer resolve, meaning your website and email services will stop working. During this time, you can renew the domain without additional fees to restore functionality.
Redemption Period: If the domain is not renewed during the grace period, it enters the redemption period, where additional fees may be required to recover the domain.
Deletion: If the domain is not renewed during the redemption period, it may be deleted and become available for registration by others.

Specifics for .co.za Domains:

Grace Period: 5 days. The .co.za registry allows a 5-day grace period after expiration, during which the domain remains functional.
Suspended Period: 5 days. Once the grace period ends, the domain is suspended and will no longer resolve. The domain can still be renewed at normal cost until it enters redemption period.
Redemption Period: 10 days. Once the suspension period ends, the domain enters the redemption period. The cost to renew a .co.za domain in the redemption period increases to R314.

Each domain’s grace and redemption periods vary. If you’re unsure about your domain’s status or need help renewing it, please contact our billing department at billing@elitehost.co.za.
