How do I configure Two-Factor Authentication in cPanel?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your cPanel account by requiring not only your password but also a second form of verification. This helps protect your account from unauthorised access. Follow the steps below to enable 2FA in cPanel.
Access cPanel:
Log into your cPanel account using your credentials. (Refer to our article: How do I log into cPanel?)
Navigate to Two-Factor Authentication:
In the Security section of the cPanel dashboard, click on Two-Factor Authentication.
Set Up Two-Factor Authentication:
Click on the Set Up Two-Factor Authentication button.
Scan the QR Code:
A QR code will be displayed. Use an authentication app (e.g., Google Authenticator or Authy) on your mobile device to scan the QR code. Alternatively, you can enter the provided key manually into the app.
Enter the Verification Code:
After scanning the QR code, your authentication app will generate a verification code. Enter this code in the provided field in cPanel.
Click on Enable:
Click the Enable button to activate Two-Factor Authentication.
Backup Codes:
Make sure to store the backup codes provided. These codes can be used to access your account if you lose access to your authentication app. It’s advisable to keep these codes in a secure place.
You have successfully enabled Two-Factor Authentication for your cPanel account! From now on, you will need to provide the verification code from your authentication app each time you log in, adding an extra layer of security to your account.
