Why do I get a "Your IP Address Has Changed" error in cPanel?
When logging into cPanel, you may encounter a message that says: Your IP address has changed. Please log in again.
cPanel/WHM monitor your IP address during login and throughout your session. If your IP address changes during this process, cPanel may block the login attempt or immediately end the session. This security feature is designed to protect your account from session hijacking and unauthorised access.
This commonly occurs when:
Your internet provider (such as Rain, Telkom and others) routes your traffic over multiple IP addresses.
You’re using a mobile or LTE/WiFi connection that frequently changes IPs.
You’re connected via a network with non-standard NAT (Network Address Translation) settings.
To avoid this issue, you have a few options:
Use the cPanel proxy login URL (temporary workaround)
Use the cPanel proxy login link, which bypasses the IP verification check. For example, use:
https://cpanel.exampledomain.co.za
The cPanel proxy acts as a temporary workaround to prevent cPanel from detecting IP changes during your session. However, some cPanel features may not function correctly when using the proxy.
Use a VPN to maintain a consistent IP address (recommended)
We recommend using a VPN, which provides a stable IP address and ensures full cPanel functionality.
For a free VPN option, try Cloudflare Warp - Easy to install on desktop or mobile, and routes your traffic through a consistent IP.
Connect using a different network
If you’re currently using a mobile connection, try switching to:
A fibre-based or fixed-line connection
A different Wi-Fi network with more stable routing
If you still experience issues logging into cPanel, please contact our support team or email us at helpdesk@elitehost.co.za.
