What happens to email during suspension of hosting?

When a hosting service is suspended, it affects how you access your email, although incoming emails are still delivered to your mailboxes.

What happens to incoming email?

  • Incoming emails continue to be delivered and stored on our servers throughout the suspension.
  • DNS must still point to our mail servers for delivery to continue.
  • Senders will not receive bounce messages unless your DNS has been changed, the domain no longer points to our mail servers, or the domain has expired.

What happens to outgoing email?

  • You will not be able to send any email while the hosting is suspended.
  • SMTP access is disabled, resulting in authentication failure when attempting to send messages.

Can I still access my mailbox?

  • IMA, POP3 and webmail access is disabled during suspension.
  • Full access to your mailbox and all stored messages will be restored once the hosting service is unsuspended.

Will any email be lost?

  • No mail is deleted during suspension. All existing emails, folders, and settings remain unchanged.
  • Once unsuspended, you will immediately regain access to all your stored and newly delivered mail.

How do I restore access?

If the suspension is billing-related, please ensure that payment has been made. You can contact our billing department via a support ticket or by emailing billing@elitehost.co.za.
